Audition, Eligibility & Program Information

  • Audition Deadline: October 1 each year
  • How to Audition: Auditions are conducted online. Please email wyo@layouthphilharmonic.com to request an audition application form.
  • Audition Fee: $55
  • Audition Results: Applicants will be notified by email.
  • Orchestra Rehearsal Day & Time: Saturdays, 2:00–5:00 PM
  • Orchestra Rehearsal Location: Holliston UMC (Dream Church)
  • Rehearsal Start Date: To be announced each year
  • Program Tuition: $250 per semester

Orchestral Instruments

  • Strings: violin, viola, cello, double bass
  • Woodwinds: flute, oboe, clarinet, bassoon
  • Brass: French horn, trumpet, trombone, tuba
  • Percussion: timpani, snare drum, marimba, pitched percussion, non-pitched percussion

Who Can Join

The Wesley Youth Orchestra is generally open to students in grades 4–12 who have received at least one year of private instruction and have reached an intermediate playing level.

Students studying through established music examination programs such as CM, RCM, ABRSM, ASTACAP, Satori, or WMCF should generally be at Level 3 or above.

Exceptionally advanced younger students in grades K–3 may also apply for an audition if they have begun instrumental study at an early age and demonstrate a playing level equivalent to Level 3 with distinction or above.

Q: I was accepted into the LAYP (Los Angeles Youth Philharmonic) Orchestra this past summer. Do I need to audition again for WYO?

A: No. Students who were accepted into and participated in the most recent LAYP Summer Season are eligible to participate in the Wesley Youth Orchestra without an additional audition.

Q: What is the difference between LAYP and WYO?

A: LAYP is a summer festival youth orchestra, while WYO is a year-round youth orchestra whose regular season typically runs from October through June.

Q: May I continue participating in WYO during the summer?

A: Yes. WYO offers a flexible summer program for students who wish to continue participating during the summer months.

Q: I am interested in volunteer service. Does WYO offer community service opportunities?

A: Yes. Our Donate Your Talent Program provides students with opportunities to serve the community through benefit concerts, performances at senior and convalescent care facilities, and service as teaching assistants or peer music tutors.
